Mounted Sheriff’s Posse ~ Tuesday’s Show & Tail

My dad and I went to the Pioneer Florida Museum in Dade City this past Sunday for their Fort Dade Raid re-enactment. What was very cool was seeing the Mounted Sheriff’s Posse of Pasco County there helping out with parking. They are a volunteer organization in my area; many counties around the country also have these organizations. While ours has several horses, I did capture one horse:

We didn’t actually stay for the battle re-enactment, but we had fun. We did manage to sit in on the Church Service and watch an actual Court Martial proceeding as it would have been back during the Civil War. We also walked around the different buildings.  One of them happened to be the old Lacoochee School House, which was located across the street from my grandma’s house before being relocated to the living museum. I’ll show more about that in another post!

  1. We had a sheriff's posse in the county we lived in previously. I had to call them once to capture a renegade steer calf from our property that kept jumping the fence and back again. That still goes down in history as one of the better excuses my boss heard for having to leave work early: "Honestly, I've got to go home and meet the sheriff's posse!" :)
