Road Trip!–Tuesday’s Show & Tail

My dad thought it would be a good idea to get Sandy used to riding in a vehicle before our big trip to MI in December. Smile with tongue out Here are some pictures from our trip to grandma’s house yesterday:

Grandma lives about 15-20 minutes north of us. Sandy was talking the whole way there and then the whole way back. When we were getting ready to leave, Sandy kept running from me, LOL Open-mouthed smile! She knew what was up. But by the time we got home, she was so ready to be quiet and was quite content.

Plus, if the last couple of nights is any indication as to her tolerance of cold, I do believe she will be getting winter attire for Michigan.

  1. Sandy is a pretty kitty! I haven't ever traveled with a cat before. Maybe some of the other TS&T participants might can give you some tips of traveling with a cat. That will be a long drive won't it?

  2. Thanks Angela! I have tons of experience traveling with cats. I moved from Flagstaff (AZ) to Lansing (MI) with 2 cats in 2001. The trick is sedatives!!! I will be getting a mild one to keep Sandy comfortable on the road. She's not a bad traveler, just loud!

  3. I'm glad you know what to do because I would have probably just stuck the cat in a carrying cage and drove with it that way! lol I don't know much of anything about cats even though I did have a few when I lived at home.

  4. Hi there! When I worked for the vet clinic, cats were commonly transported tied inside of a pillowcase if the owner didn't have a cat carrier. This worked fine for cats that were declawed, but the ones with claws - well - - - they could rip that pillow case to ribbons!!!

  5. @ClassyChassy: that is funny, although I don't think I would use a pillow case to transport (I do have a carrier, btw).

When I travel with any pet, especially a cat, I tend to transport to and from the vehicle in the carrier, but I like to let them loose inside while driving. This seems to make them a bit more comfortable.
